An October walk with members of The Wainwright Society on to Place Fell with a return by the lakeshore path to Patterdale. Wainwright called this path, 'the most beautiful and rewarding walk in Lakeland.' High praise indeed! Route: Starting from the Patterdale Hotel car park, walk through the village and cross Goldrill Beck. Continue past cottages passing through a gate, and take the upper fell side track to Boredale Hause. A newly- constructed path leads to the summit of Place Fell. From the trig point head northeast down across the plateau towards an old sheepfold. Here turn down a path into the valley of Scalehow Beck to join the lakeshore path from Howtown. Follow this undulating path back to Side farm . Pass through the farm and walk across fields back to the main road and the starting point.
